Hartford HELP sends at least one volunteer attorney and
two volunteer UCONN law students into a shelter every
Tuesday morning to assist homeless individuals with legal
matters on a single consultation, advice only and/or limited
representation basis.

We began regularly scheduled free weekly legal clinics alternating
between two Hartford shelters in October 2009.  With the
exception of the months of July and August, when UCONN
law students are unavailable, HELP has operated continuously
in Hartford for the past 2 years.

On average, HELP attorneys serve approximately 4 individuals
each Tuesday morning.  The number of individuals served,
however, can vary.  For instance, in April, 2009 the Brown
Rudnick LLP law firm staffed 4 Tuesday clinics with 9 attorneys
and 2 paralegals, serving 37 individuals.

Connecticut Appleseed's Executive Director, Bob Kettle, plays an administrative role in our program which includes recruiting volunteer attorneys and scheduling volunteer attorneys each week.  HELP's student coordinators at UCONN Law School schedule student volunteers.  HELP is now the largest pro bono program on UCONN Law's campus.
